As always, this week’s mood boards are inspired by people who ask for inspiration on my Facebook page.

Some questions this week include how to use Sherwin Williams Cream and Sugar, how to decorate a living room with a black leather sofa, how to incorporate colors with red brick, what color palette works with pine floors, and how to use colors with pink and beige exposed brick walls.

Quite the variety! :)

If you have come for a particular mood board from Pinterest or Facebook, find it in the table of contents and it will take you straight there!

Decorating With Cream Walls and Sage Accents

The first mood board was inspired by a follower asking how to incorporate Sherwin Williams Cream and Sugar into a bedroom. This presents a vintage-inspired bedroom design with a soft, romantic, and nature-inspired color palette.

The combination of sage green, beige, warm greige, and floral patterns creates a cozy, timeless aesthetic that blends traditional charm with modern comfort.

How to Decorate with Black Leather Sofas

One of the questions I get asked the most is how to decorate with a black leather sofa. I think a lot of people navigate towards teal and orange, but these are very bright colors and as black is already quite dramatic, I prefer neutral tones to help make it feel more calm.

How to Use This Color Palette in Your Space

This palette blends deep, moody tones with soft neutrals and warm greens for a cozy yet contemporary feel.

Wall Colors:

  • BM Strand of Pearls (Soft off-white): Use as the main wall color for a light, neutral base.
  • BM Hiking Path: Great as an accent wall or behind built-ins.
  • BM Taupe Fedora: Can be used for trim or cabinetry to add depth.
  • BM Witching Hour: Ideal for doors, statement walls, or painted built-ins.

Furniture & Textiles:

  • The black leather sofa serves as a strong focal point.
  • Add botanical-inspired textiles (rugs, pillows, blankets) to soften the dark furniture.
  • Use natural wood elements (like shelving and tables) to warm up the space.

Decor & Accessories:

  • Incorporate woven baskets and rattan elements for texture.
  • Display greenery and plants to tie in the nature-inspired tones.
  • Use landscape artwork to bring in organic shapes and a sense of calm.

Hickory Flooring and Dark Wood Cabinets in the Kitchen

Hickory flooring is a popular choice for the kitchen. It provides a wonderful contrast if you have white kitchen cabinets. However, if you also have dark wood cabinets, the key is to tone down the warmth by using grays, off whites and blues.

Red Oak Flooring and Red Brick Fireplace in the Living Room

A lot of homes have red oak flooring with a beautiful red brick fireplace in the living room. You definitely do not need to change it!

When there is so much red in a room, the key is to work with the warm tones of the red brick and flooring, instead of trying to tone it down to create a very cozy living room.

Color Palette Breakdown

  • Arcade White (SW 7100) – A soft, warm off-white for walls to keep the space bright and neutral. Works beautifully as a backdrop to balance the deeper tones.
  • Aesthetic White (SW 7035) – A slightly warmer neutral that can be used for trim, ceiling, or complementary furniture pieces to create a cohesive and inviting feel.
  • Alaea (SW 7579) – A muted brick-red shade that complements the brick fireplace. Consider using this for accent walls, pillows, or even a statement chair.
  • Carnelian (SW 7580) – A deep, rich red-brown that enhances the warmth of the space. It can be introduced through rugs, throw blankets, or artwork.

Furniture Selections

  • Green Velvet Sofa: This rich olive-green velvet sofa adds sophistication and contrasts beautifully against the warm brick.
  • Vintage-Inspired Rug: A Persian-style red and navy patterned rug grounds the space and ties in the Carnelian and Alaea tones from the palette.
  • Black Marble Coffee Table: Adds a touch of modernity and refined contrast with its dark, sleek surface.
  • Decorative Pillows: Use traditional Persian-style pillows in warm red and gold tones to bring in global-inspired details.

Bedroom With Old Pine Floors

Pine floors have such a natural tone, they can pretty much go with any color palette. However, I love using rusts, greens, mustards, and creams with this pine floors.

  • Sage green adds a calming, organic touch and is seen in the bedding (sheets, pillowcases, or a quilt).
